Siren to Wail's All-Star Benefit Concerts help to spread Hepatitis C awareness, provide referrals to doctors, a national toll-hotline with Siren's partner Hep C Connection, for people to call who are newly diagnosed and have someone to speak to about their Hepatitis C. Siren to Wail produces awareness through music, musically related programs, and PSA's (Public Service Announcements) for television and radio. Our Goal is to get people tested.
Our Mission 2004
This year we have released a new PSA video for hepatitis awareness called "The Hep-Acation Project" where we reach out to parents through their children. This is where we go into the schools at no cost to educate the children and hope they will inspire their parents to get tested as their parents could be walking around with this silent killer and possibly giving it to their children. Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco has declared the week of November 15 through November 20, 2004 Hepatitis C Awareness and is offering free testing at the Spirit for Healing Drum Circle on November 19, 2004. We at Siren to Wail have dedicated this year's events to the memory of Crystal Perry who died in August after turning 14 in the hospital waiting for a liver transplant. We are finding that more and more children have been born with Hepatitis C because their mothers were infected and didn't know it. Sometimes they don't find out they have it until their mother finds out she has it and has already passed it on to her children.
